Purpose / Scope :

Cabinet is the senior leadership team of Tyndale University and is chaired by the President. Cabinet is charged with the responsibility to advise, support and assist the President in efficient and effective operation of the institution. These responsibilities include developing and implementing the institutional mission and strategy, and integrating and coordinating administrative and academic management in support of the mission and strategy, in a manner that supports the direction established by the Board of Governors.

While the President has final authority for decisions, the objective is to find agreement within the Cabinet either by consensus or majority vote.

Meeting Frequency:

  • Normally every two weeks, with additional meetings as needed.

Responsibilities:

Under the overall guidance of the President, Cabinet members:
  • Support the President in working with the Board of Governors to advance Tyndale University’s mission, values and strategy;
  • Provide effective, responsive, and informed institutional leadership and serve as a venue for shared strategic thinking and collaboration;
  • Oversee and implement planning, major initiatives and policies throughout the institution;
  • Develop and implement the institutional mission, values and strategy;
  • Provide continuity in decision-making on significant administrative issues;
  • Account for the institution’s financial and legal integrity;
  • Enable and empower successful leadership at all levels throughout Tyndale;
  • Encourage and facilitate effective interaction of departments as they work together to achieve the mission and strategic priorities; and
  • Advise the President with respect to institutional goals and issues.

Operating Principles:

Cabinet members operate in accordance with the following principles:
  • Display trust, mutual support and respect for each other;
  • Respect everyone’s right to dissenting viewpoints;
  • Ensure strong, open communication and dissemination of information to campus constituencies;
  • Model Christian leadership and foster Christian culture within Cabinet and across the university; and
  • Support decisions of the President and Cabinet.
